Part of the Utah visit, but deserving of it's own post. Way to go TY!

Earlier this year, Ty was training for a half marathon and we had the whole "shin splints that were so bad they may have been stress fractures" episode. Fast forward after a lot of recovery to July 4, 2011 when Ty participated in his first 5K. The race happened to take place not where he had been training (elevation approx. 200 feet above sea level), but in Kaysville (elevation 4300).
It was hot. It was muggy. Frankly, I was miserable, and it was 7:00 in the morning. My stomach was tied up in knots, just knowing how disappointed Ty would be once he finished. He is used to running a 22 minute 5K. I knew it just was not in the cards for that day. The miserableness of the heat tacked onto the change in elevation. . .there was just no way he would be anywhere near his normal time.
So, he came in at 22:40. Hahahahaha! Holy cow, I have no idea how he did it. Well, I do. He has this incredible stubborn determination that I don't know where it comes from, but I truly love it. Soon after the beginning of the race, he knew he started out too fast. But, true to Ty form, he pushed through at his same old pace. The results were an incredible time, 47th overall in the 5k, and 3rd place in his age group (12 - 14 year olds). Congratulations Ty!
Waiting to begin in the masses of other 5k runners. . .(including cousin Jaq and Uncle Tony)
Last corner. . .
Oh man! There's the finish!
(Just as I ((Mom)) took this pic, I thought, "Oh, I should snap one with the clock so he can see his finish time." Ya, my camera can't recover as quickly as my brain can. . .always a step behind. Oh wait, I guess my brain was a step behind here too. . .)
"I did it and I'm totally happy with the results." Oh, and yes, the Beaverton t-shirt was totally on purpose.
Dad made all kinds of comments about this photo ;)
"K, Mom. Done yet?"

Just 'bout.

Awesome job!!! I love how he is wearing a Beaverton shirt!! I walked the Portland Marathon in 2002 and I'm going to TRY and do it again next year.
