Crazy Last Day of School 2012

Today's schedule of events:
8 a.m. Justin off to school
8:45 a.m. Ty and Abbie off
9:30 a.m. Joanne off to the middle school for the 8th Grade Honors Ceremony

Ty is dead center in a black jacket-with a lot of hair. I couldn't bring myself to make him cut it before today, since he hates his hair when it is shorter.

10:45 a.m. Dave, Spencer, and Joanne in attendance to watch Tyler get awarded the Top Student in Algebra.
Receiving his "Certificate of Promotion" hugging Ms. Quinn, his Science teacher, who he was also a Teacher's Assistant for.
Tyler had no idea he had been chosen as a top student, and it was so much fun to see him get this award. In speaking with his Algebra teacher later, he talked about how impressed he is with Ty, not just because he is good at math, but because he loves it and has a voracious appetite for learning. He always comes to class with more questions about how he can learn more. His science teacher later told us that she had him listed as a top student in science as well, and the two teachers had to decide which course to give him the award in.

11:30 Rushing home so that Spencer can catch the bus on his last day of Kindergarten (because that has been one of his most favorite things about the year)
Spencer and Roger. It is hard to decide who loves whom more. I think, with Spencer's given name being Gordon, he is often seen as a true and genuine "old soul" right off the bat.

12:00 Joanne off to the Kindy classroom, where she has spent every Wednesday afternoon all year and loved every minute of it.
12:30 Spencer being award the Presidential Silver Award by his teacher, Mrs. Pearson.
Mrs. Pearson said that "this student has seen incredible progress this year, and she knows, because of the determination and effort she has seen in him every single day that great things await him in life." He was the only student to receive this award in his class. I know that it is a big deal, but don't know the criteria other than what I heard at the middle school today. At the middle school, the students who were on the honor roll all nine trimesters while at middle school were given this award. Mrs. Pearson was the perfect teacher for Spencer this year. I'm so glad that he had her.

12:45 Joanne was asked if she'd heard that Justin was recognized in the all-school assembly this morning for something or other. . .
1:05 Joanne and Dave back at the middle school to watch Abbie perform in a Shakespearean-type 10 minute play that she wrote with a small group of peers. All 7th Graders in her "hall" participated in this project. Yesterday, two groups from each of the three core classrooms were chosen to perform them for the entire group today.
1:45 Plays don't start on time and we find out Abbie won't be performing until last. Joanne has time to go back to Kindergarten for a few minutes, and then bring the boys back to watch Abbie perform.
2:25 Spencer is "magically" turned into a 1st Grader.
Tapped on the head with a pencil that says, "Today, I became a 1st Grader"

2:30 Picked up an extremely teary Justin (he wears his emotions, and therefore, his tears close to the surface, like his Mom). I cannot BELIEVE I didn't get a picture of him with his teacher, whom we love, Ms. King. He was awarded two "Pawsome" certificates. A "Pawsome" is something that students get awarded for safe and respectful behavior throughout the year. I am not sure what qualified Justin to get a Pawsome certificate, much less, two.* He was also one of 12 students recognized by the P.E. teacher, Mrs. Riggs. I wish I'd known he was going to be recognized so that one of us could have been there!
2:45 Back at middle school to watch Abbie in her Shakespearean performance. She was quite a bit of fun to watch.
Abbie wouldn't look at the camera as we were leaving the class, even though Billie was trying to get her to, so here is a nice shot of her hair-do for the performance.
Abbie needed a full-length dress for the performance to look like a princess. A friend from our ward found this formal at Goodwill and let her borrow it for the occasion. Yes, I know how much trouble we are in. She looks way too beautiful.

We've had a fun, and exhausting day :)

*I asked his teacher what the Pawsome certificates were for, and she said they were awarded to students who consistently showed safe, respectful, and responsible behavior throughout the year. They also discussed that it takes a great deal of integrity to do this. Yep, this sounds just like Justin.
