Although I seriously dislike school fundraisers that send kids out into the neighborhood to ask people for money, and then provide can't live without 'prizes' to the kids who make the most, I do have to say that this school really uses their funds well. I don't know how they do so much, or maybe the food is partially donated, maybe both. Last night, the school provided dinner (Little Ceasars') and Dilly Bars (Dairy Queen) before the show. This is the second such evening we've been to this Spring. The first one, in April, was for 'Math Night' - Baja Fresh to eat then.
Abbie was in a couple of numbers last night. For the first, she had taught her friend Ashley to play one of the parts to "Heart and Soul." Then they played it together, Abbie playing the jazzed up part that I learned a hundred years ago from who knows where.
Abbie and Ashley
A few weeks ago, while Abbie was hangin' in the music room at school (they seriously have the coolest music teacher ever-I'm amazed at everything he teaches the kids), and sat down to play "When I am Baptized" - it's the Primary song that begins "I like to look for rainbows. . ." I had tried to teach her to pedal, but hadn't had much luck. Mr. James taught her to pedal it beautifully, and then suggested she play it or sing it for the show. She told him it was a religious song (they had requested none of these), and after hearing the words, he told her he thought it was fine. Anyway, over the next couple of weeks, between more encouragement from him and her good friend Rachel wanting to sing it with her, they decided to do it. The Primary President was so impressed when she heard about it, she made a special effort to be there.
Rachel sang the first verse, Abbie the second, and they both sang each chorus together.
They are braver than me!
Dave is sporting the "it is the last half of the quarter and there are so many projects and tests and I'm stressed out of my mind" look. Don't worry, the current test's study notes are in his pocket. He did take his nose out of them to listen to Abbie. Promise. He's the one who took the action shots!
